BackgroundKlink was born Jerald Fredrick Clark Klinkenberg in Edmonds, Washington. He was raised in western Washington until junior high when his family moved to a fishing lake just outside Cheney, Washington. He grew up with cooking in his veins from learning fractions with his Grandma Klink, to spending hours in the dish tank at the family restaurant Klink's on the Lake. After graduating from Cheney High School, Klink attended Spokane Community College graduating with an A.A.S in Culinary Arts. After holding the Executive Chef position at Klink's on the Lake, LJ received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Washington University in Communications and Government. He also received a Master of Arts degree from Gonzaga University. With his college degrees intact, Klink became the inaugural director of the Culinary Arts Institute at Richland Community College in Decatur, Illinois. Once the culinary arts program took off, Klink returned to Washington where he became a leading expert in school food reform as a consultant with Empire Health Foundation and is currently the Nutritional Services Director and Executive Chef at Cheney Public Schools.[2] EducationKlink's degrees include an AAS in Culinary Arts from Spokane Community College, a bachelor's in Communications and Government from Eastern Washington University, and Masters in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University.[2] CareerKlink is an ACF Certified Executive Chef, Certified Culinary Administrator and Approved Certification Evaluator. He also has MCFE (Master Certified Food Executive) and a CFSE (Certified Food Service Educator) as part of his credentials. Klink won the "Ice House" episode of Extreme Chef on the Food Network in 2011.
