He also played for Al-Shorta and scored the winning goal in the 2001 Iraqi Elite Cup final. He played for the Iraqi national team in the 2000 AFC Asian Cup. During the 2002 World Cup qualifiers, coach Adnan Hamad who made several changes to the squad kept him in the final squad, but after being blamed for a goal against Saudi Arabia, he never played for Iraq again.[1] Mahir was voted as the 12th best player in Al-Shorta's history.[2] References1. ^{{cite web|publisher=iraqsport.com |author=Hassanin Mubarak |title=Player Database |url=http://iraqsport.com/cgi-bin/db/db.cgi?db=players&uid=default&view_records=1&ID=*&nh=2 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20010424225732/http://iraqsport.com/cgi-bin/db/db.cgi?db=players&uid=default&view_records=1&ID=%2A&nh=2 |archivedate=April 24, 2001 |df= }} 2. ^Al Shorta SC: Greatest 50 Players External links
