Rudraprayag is the closest city. It is located in Bhardhar patti above the village of Mathiyana khal and is surrounded by green mountains. There is one priest who lives alone in this temple. Many pilgrims from different countries travel here. Mathiyana maa is one of the most powerful goddess of Uttarakhand. She has 2 forms one which depict peace is in mathiyana khaal and her kaali roop is in kaalimath.She is known for her motherly nature among the people. There are many stories related to her origin. 1st is, When lord Shiva was wandering with the dead body of mata Sati in sky, Lord Vishnu cut her body in many pieces and one of the body part fell here in Bhardar pati of Rudraprayag,Uttrakhand. 2nd is, 100 of years ago mathiyana maa who was a girl married to a tibetian prince but her step mother with few relatives killed her husband. When her husband was burned in Rudraprayag she also get sati then she became goddess and take revenge against all murderer. You can reach here by Taxi which you will get from Rudraprayag.Her temple is located at the top of the hill and you have to walk around 3 to 4 km uphill. Not everyone dare to walk almost slant hill, But you are lucky if you do so and will be feel blessed. Every year in navratre people from all over the world visit to take blessings from goddess.
