Solages (born March 25, 1985) is a member of the New York State Assembly, representing the 22nd district which includes portions of the town of Hempstead in Nassau County on Long Island. A Democrat, Solages was first elected in 2012. Solages was born and raised in Elmont, New York. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Hofstra University's School of Education, Health and Human Services. Following graduation, Solages worked as a supervisor of access services at Hofstra's Axinn Library, modernizing library resources.[2] She also worked as a legislative aide for a time. In 2012, Solages won the Democratic nomination in the newly created 22nd district, which was drawn as a Democratic stronghold.[3] She easily won her first election, and since then has never faced serious opposition. She is the first person of Haitian descent to be elected to the Assembly.[4] In the Assembly, Solages serves as the Chair of the Task Force on Food, Farm & Nutrition Policy. She resides in Elmont, New York with her family. She is the sister of Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages.[5] References1. ^{{cite web|title=Grace Meng for Congress|url=http://lightfieldcreative.com/project/grace-meng-for-congress/|work=Lightfield Creative|publisher=Lightfield Creative|accessdate=25 February 2013}} 2. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.thehofstrachronicle.com/category/news/2018/5/1/assemblywoman-solages-recalls-her-political-journey|title=Assemblywoman Solages recalls her political journey|website=The Hofstra Chronicle|language=en-US|access-date=2019-02-07}} 3. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.newsday.com/long-island/li-s-pool-of-political-power-players-becoming-ethnically-diverse-1.6487035|title=Immigrants emerge as power players|website=Newsday|language=en|access-date=2019-02-07}} 4. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.lunionsuite.com/michaelle-solages-1st-haitian-woman-elected-to-the-new-york-state-assembly/|title=Michaelle Solages 1st Haitian Woman Elected to the New York State Assembly|date=2013-01-03|website=L'union Suite|language=en-US|access-date=2019-02-07}} 5. ^{{cite news|last=Hackmack|first=Andrew|title=Solages wins Assembly primary|url=http://www.liherald.com/stories/Solages-wins-Assembly-primary,43235|accessdate=25 February 2013|newspaper=Long Island Herald|date=14 September 2012}} External links
