He was the son of the last Maharajah of the Sandur Kingdom.^[1] He was a seven-time MLA and one-time MP from Raichur.^[2] He also served as Rural Development, Panchayat Raj and Finance minister of Karnataka state.^[3] Ghorpade was the Chairman-emiratus of the Sandur Manganese and Iron ore (SMOIRE) operation. He was a Cambridge post-graduate in economics.^[4]
