The New Zealand Rugby Museum, based in Palmerston North, New Zealand, is a museum dedicated to the sport of Rugby union. Founded by John Sinclair and modeled after the Trophy Room in Cardiff Arms Park in Wales, the museum's collections include equipment, clothing, books, photographs, trophies, badges and almost everything else related to the game.[1] Until his death in 2012, Wilson Whineray was the museum's patron while Stephen Berg is the full-time director. The museum moved into larger premises adjacent to the Civic Centre and Te Manawa cultural complex prior to the Rugby World Cup 2011.[2] The Museum was part of the REAL New Zealand Festival, a series of cultural events and activities coordinated with the hosting of the Cup.[3] A handful of the approximately 50,000 holdings are contributed to NZMuseums, the combined catalog of museums across New Zealand.[4] As well as collecting objects connected to key historic matches,[5] the museum also loans particular items for particular uses.[6] The museum is managed by the Rugby Museum Society of New Zealand, a registered charity[7] and Associate Member of the New Zealand Rugby Union.[8] References1. ^{{Citation| last = Crawford| first = Scott A.G.M.| title = New Zealand Rugby Museum| journal = Journal of Sport History| volume = 23| issue = 3| year = 1996| pages = | url=http://www.la84foundation.org/SportsLibrary/JSH/JSH1996/JSH2303/jsh2303m.pdf}} 2. ^{{cite news |url= https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/new-zealand-rugby-museum-opens-ahead-of-world-cup-2338510.html |title=New Zealand Rugby Museum opens ahead of World Cup |work=The Independent |publisher=INM |location=London |issn=0951-9467 |oclc=185201487 |accessdate=21 December 2011 |date=16 August 2011}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.nz2011.govt.nz/experiencerealnz/events/87-nz-rugby-museum-revel-in-rugby-the-sport-that-shaped-our-nation |title=New Zealand Rugby Museum: Revel in Rugby — the Sport that shaped our Nation - New Zealand 2011 |work=nz2011.govt.nz |year=2011 |accessdate=21 December 2011 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110623104719/http://www.nz2011.govt.nz/experiencerealnz/events/87-nz-rugby-museum-revel-in-rugby-the-sport-that-shaped-our-nation |archivedate=23 June 2011 |df= }} 4. ^{{cite web |url= http://www.nzmuseums.co.nz/account/3189 |title=New Zealand Rugby Museum on NZMuseums |work=nzmuseums.co.nz |year=2011 |accessdate=21 December 2011}} 5. ^{{cite web |url= http://www.iol.co.za/sport/yellow-card-gets-new-home-in-rugby-museum-1.552734 |title=Yellow card gets new home in rugby museum |work=iol.co.za |year=2003 |accessdate=2 May 2012}} 6. ^{{cite news |url= http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/10/06/1065292517279.html |title=Treasured whistle to kick off RWC |accessdate=2 May 2012 |location=Melbourne |work=The Age |date=6 October 2003}} 7. ^{{cite web |url= http://www.register.charities.govt.nz/CharitiesRegister/CharitySummary.aspx?id=44ADE0F4-F8E3-DC11-8026-0015C5F3DA29 |title=Charities Register |work=register.charities.govt.nz |year=2011 |quote=These are the current details for: The Rugby Museum Society of New Zealand Incorporated |accessdate=21 December 2011}} 8. ^{{cite web |url= http://www.nzru.co.nz/members_partners/nzru_members |title=NZRU Members |work=nzru.co.nz |year=2011 |quote=New Zealand Rugby Union |accessdate=21 December 2011}} External links{{Commons|Category:New Zealand Rugby Museum}}
