He was first elected in 2011 after narrowly defeating incumbent Freddrenna Lyle,[1] and is currently serving his second term. He has two children, Sydni and Roderick, Jr.[2] Sawyer grew up in the 6th ward on the south side of Chicago. He is an alums of St. Ignatius College Prep (class of 1981).
