School of Silence is a British children's TV series which airs on CBBC. In the show, a group of noisy children in a particular area of Britain are sent to the School of Silence (from which the show gets its name), where they must learn to be silent.

The children have 3 classes at the school, followed by a final exam. The headmistress, Miss Gobstop, is able to monitor the noise levels using a machine called the Gobstop 2000. If the kids pass the final exam, they will graduate and will take the "Golden Gobstopper" as a prize. However, if they fail, they will be expelled, and each only leaves with a whoopee cushion.

Round One was with Mr. Gross. His challenges included throwing wet toilet paper at a target and having their bare feet in a tub of maggots or in a gunge filled boot.

Round Two was with Nora Nugget and her assistant, Britney Biscuit. Her challenges consisted of combining different foods and the unfortunate child who was chosen had to eat it. In Series 2, Nora and Britney were replaced with Miss Adventure, a geography teacher and explorer.

Round 3 was with Mrs. Bunsen. Her challenges was science-based. For example, one challenge was Silent Disco which has the chosen child dance to music which was through headphones while holding bottles of a soft drink. In Series 2, Miss Bunsen was replaced with Mr Prance, a performing arts teacher.

The last round was the Final Exam with the hilariously named Colonel Kittens in which the four children were seated in stocks and were barefoot. For 90 seconds the kids had to endure a barrage of tickling, and gunge on their heads and bare feet, and the 'teacher' making faces and using a fart machine to try to make them laugh or scream. In Series 2, Colonel Kittens was replaced with a nutty french professor and his glove puppet assistant, Herbert.

Differences in Series 2

Miss Gobstop and Mr Gross are used more for comedy purposes, using more exaggerated like characteristics.

The White Tie from the first series is replaced with a Purple Tie.

The Gobstop 2000, Miss Gobstop's noise monitoring machine, has been upgraded to the Gobstop 3000, which is more colourful and bigger.

In Series 1, the chosen contestants would have been picked from a jar of gobstoppers. In Series 2, all the contestants are involved in the challenges.

Barney Harwood presents the first series. When in Series 2, the voice-over is Simon Greenall

The School Nurse is played by Jolana Lee in the original series and wears a face mask. Whereas in Series 2, the Nurse is played by Scottish actress Leah MacRae and is unmasked.

In the original series, the kids and Barney visit Miss Gobstop at the end of the Final Exam to see their results and see if they're expelled or if they've graduated. In Series 2, the kids visit Miss Gobstop before the Final Exam and only hear their reports. When the Final Exam is over, Miss Gobstop and the other members of staff meet the children where the exam took place, the Professor's Lab, and they get their results there.

After the first three classes in Series 1, Miss Gobstop just reviews the tests in her office and discusses what went right and what went wrong. In Series 2, Miss Gobstop talks to the kids on the intercom and tell them if they've either passed or failed.

In Series 2, if the kids pass one of the first three classes, they bank a prize from Miss Gobstop's "Confiscation Cupboard" from each class. There are no banked prizes to be won in the original series.

If the kids get expelled in Series 1, they each receive a whoopee cushion. In Series 2, they get nothing.
