The battleNTC forces managed to advance to the outskirts of Bin Jawad on 23 August after retaking Brega and Ra's Lanuf the previous day, but were unable to progress further due to heavy loyalist resistance in the area.[3] On 24 August, a heavy loyalist artillery bombardment caused the rebels to retreat 20 km from Bin Jawad to Sidra.[4] NTC troops regrouped and counter-attacked, but the loyalists ambushed the advancing NTC forces once again at Bin Jawad, in an echo of an earlier defeat in March. Twenty rebel fighters died in the clashes, with an undetermined number of loyalist casualties.[5] The next day, forces loyal to the NTC pulled back to Ra's Lanuf out of loyalist artillery range, and prepared for another advance along the coast towards Bin Jawad and their ultimate objective, Sirte.[6] On 27 August, another advance began towards Bin Jawad, this time successfully dislodging the loyalist troops who retreated to Sirte, and Bin Jawad fell entirely to the NTC Army.[7] Rebel forces began advancing towards Sirte the next day.[8] References1. ^{{cite news | url=http://www.dawn.com/2011/03/25/nato-to-enforce-no-fly-zone-over-libya.html| title=Nato takes control of enforcing Libya no-fly zone| accessdate=26 March 2011 | date=25 March 2011|work=Dawn|agency=Agence France-Presse|location=Tripoli}} {{Libyan civil war}}{{coord missing|Libya}}{{Use dmy dates|date=June 2017}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Bin Jawad}}2. ^{{cite news|url=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/libya/8723027/Libya-the-battle-for-control-of-Sirte.html|accessdate=21 January 2012|title=Libya: the battle for control of Sirte|first=Rob|last=Crilly|location=Ra's Lanuf|work=The Telegraph|date=25 August 2011}} 3. ^{{cite news|url=http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/2/8/19649/World/Region/Rebels-stuck-at-Bin-Jawad-on-way-to-Gaddafi-hometo.aspx|title=Rebels stuck at Bin Jawad on way to Gaddafi hometown|work=Ahram Online|accessdate=21 January 2012|date=24 August 2011|agency=Agence France-Presse}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://blogs.aljazeera.net/liveblog/libya-aug-25-2011-0352|title=Libya - Aug 25, 2011 - 03:52|work=Al Jazeera Blogs|accessdate=21 November 2014}} 5. ^NATO Helps in Hunt for Qaddafi as Rebels Gain Momentum 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.citifmonline.com/index.php?id=1.287155.1.537565|title=Hundreds of dead bodies found at Tripoli hospital|work=citifmonline|accessdate=21 November 2014}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.theguardian.com/world/middle-east-live/2011/aug/27/libya-hunt-gaddafi-live-blog#block-25|title=Guardian Live Blog|author=Ben Quinn|work=the Guardian|accessdate=21 November 2014}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://blogs.aljazeera.net/liveblog/libya-aug-28-2011-2141|title=Libya - Aug 28, 2011 - 21:41|work=Al Jazeera Blogs|accessdate=21 November 2014}} 2 : Battles of the Libyan Civil War (2011)|August 2011 events |
