Early life and educationBorn in West Bengal, Mukherjee grew up in Delhi. Her father is Bharat Ratna Pranab Mukherjee, who was the 13th President of the Republic of India.[1] Dance careerMukherjee began formal dance training at age 12.[2] Her teachers included Pandit Durgalal, Vidushi Uma Sharma and Rajendra Gangani.[3] The Hindu called her performances "accomplished" and lauded her precise footwork.[3] PoliticsSharmistha joined the INC in July 2014.
