ReceptionShored Up received mostly positive reviews from critics. Geoff Berkshire of Variety praised the film by saying that "Ben Kalina's sturdy documentary debut delivers a sobering examination of the threat of rising sea levels."[9] Neil Genzlinger of The New York Times, gave the film a positive review that "The film not only explores the fruitlessness of trying to stabilize shorelines that nature prefers to keep in flux, but it also looks at issues like who benefits from, and who pays for, these expensive efforts."[10] Daphne Howland in her review for The Village Voice said that "Our seemingly innate desire to hang on to disappearing sand, which is essentially what our barrier islands are, is beautifully illustrated by the film's cinematography and historical footage."[11]References1. ^{{cite web |title=An interview with Ben Kalina, director of Shored Up documentary |url=http://www.indyweek.com/indyweek/an-interview-with-ben-kalina-director-of-shored-up-documentary/Content?oid=3770522|accessdate=May 25, 2014}} 2. ^{{cite web |title=Ben Kalina & Superstorm Sandy: Documentary Predicts Natural Disaster In Film|url=http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/24/ben-kalina-superstorm-sandy-documentary-film_n_2184651.html|accessdate=May 17, 2014}} 3. ^{{cite web |title=A Film Festival With More of Everything|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/21/nyregion/at-montclair-film-festival-more-films-more-locations-more-days.html?_r=0|accessdate=May 25, 2014}} 4. ^{{cite web |title=2013 Montclair Film Festival Announces Lineup Of Over 80 Films & Events Set For April 29-May 5|url=http://montclairfilmfest.org/2013/04/2013-montclair-film-festival-announces-lineup-of-over-80-films-events-set-for-april-29-may-5/|accessdate=May 25, 2014}} 5. ^{{cite web |title=Hurricane Sandy One Year Later: Television Premiere: 'Shored Up' on Audience Network|url=http://blogs.indiewire.com/sydneylevine/hurricane-sandy-one-year-later-television-premiere-shored-up-on-audience-network-international-film-business-television|accessdate=May 25, 2014}} 6. ^{{cite web|title=HUMAN VS NATURE|url=http://www.nycurchin.com/human-vs-nature/|accessdate=May 25, 2014|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20140606204410/http://www.nycurchin.com/human-vs-nature/|archivedate=June 6, 2014|df=}} 7. ^{{cite web |title=Ben Kalina wins Sundance documentary prize for ‘Shored Up’|url=http://www.broadstreetreview.com/wnwn/ben-kalina-wins-sundance-documentary-prize-for-shored-up|accessdate=May 25, 2014}} 8. ^{{cite web |title=Should Public Museums Be Open to Screening Controversial Issue Films?|url=http://www.indiewire.com/article/should-public-museums-be-open-to-screening-controversial-issue-films|accessdate=May 25, 2014}} 9. ^{{cite web |title=Film Review: ‘Shored Up’|url=https://variety.com/2013/film/reviews/film-review-shored-up-1200954374/|accessdate=May 17, 2014}} 10. ^{{cite web |title=Build a Beach, Rinse, Repeat|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/29/movies/build-a-beach-rinse-repeat.html?partner=rss&emc=rss|accessdate=May 17, 2014}} 11. ^{{cite web |title=A Beautiful Look at How Seaboards are Destroyed in Shored Up|url=http://www.villagevoice.com/2013-11-27/film/shored-up/|accessdate=May 17, 2014}} External links
