Stefanos Chandakas, MD, MBA, PhD ({{lang-el|Στέφανος Χανδακας}}; born 27 March 1972) is a Greek Obstetrician-Gynecologist and Endoscopic Surgeon.

He is the Founder & Chairman of HOPEgenesis NPO, a non-profit organization, in Greece, tackling with the demographic deadlock and the socioeconomic aspects of it. Member of the Board of Directors and Scientific Board at [https://www.mitera.gr/en/mitera/ Mitera Maternity Hospital], at [https://www.hygeia.gr/en/ Hygeia group of Hospitals].

He is also a constituent of the medical Scientific Committee of ORamaVR, a startup company which focuses in changing current medical education through virtual reality surgical tutorials.

From 2018, he is a member of [https://www.vodafone.gr/kyklos-presveuton-idrymatos-vodafone/ Vodafone Foundation’s Ambassadors], an initiative that aims to contribute in enhancing the knowledge and the effectiveness of Vodafone Foundation’s programs with the use of technology.

He was a professional sailor from 1980 to 1999 and participated in the Greek National Sailing team for 13 years. During that period he represented his country at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and took the 18th place in Soling class category with crew members Stavros Alevras and helmsman Panayiotis Alevras.

Early Life and Career

The son of the Obstetrician-Gynecologist, Dr. Athanasios Chandakas, Dr. Stefanos Chandakas was born on 27 March 1972 in Athens, Greece. He studied at the Medical School of the University of Athens and qualified as a doctor in 1996. In 2003 he received a PhD degree in Medicine from the University of Athens. A year later, he got his MBA degree from the Imperial College of London.

Since 2003 until today, Dr. Chandakas has worked as a Visiting Professor and as a Lecturer at universities and institutes like the University of Athens, University of Bologna in Italy, Princess Royal University Hospital in London-UK, Imperial College in London-UK, European Surgical Institute in Hamburg-Germany etc.

He was a member of the Directors Board of IASO Medical Group SA in Athens, Greece for over 15 years (1992-2011), the largest Greek private healthcare organization at that time. In 2005, he founded the Clinical Gynecology Centers of Excellence in Athens-Greece, London-UK, Tirana-Albania, Nicosia-Cyprus and he works as Medical Director there until today.

From 2007 until 2011, he was the managing director of Cryobanks SA in Athens, which is the one of the biggest stem cell companies in Greece.

Since 2011, Dr. Stefanos Chandakas is a member of the Board of Directors and member of the Scientific Board at Mitera Hospital, Hygeia Group of Hospitals, Athens, Greece.

Since 2012 to now is a Partner, Medical Doctor at Athens Beverly Hills Medical Group, a multidisciplinary Clinic for women including gynecological, plastic surgery, dermatological, aesthetic and other services.

He is the founder and director of Hygeia IVF Clinic, Hygeia Tirana Hospital, Albania.

In 2015, Dr. Chandakas founded HOPEgenesis, a non-profit organization in the fields of medicine and social welfare that addresses the low birth rates in Greece. Its mission is to provide comprehensive medical care and treatment for women who become pregnant until the day they give birth and live in remote rural areas or isolated islands in Greece.

Activities and Volunteerism

• Volunteer Doctor at Omada Aigaiou NGO in Athens, Greece. Omada Aigaiou NGO is a charity organization, which performs medical examinations and infrastructure projects for the small and isolated islands of the Aegean Sea

• He is a member of the Marketing Committee of the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) in Athens and member of the Directors Board of the World Olympian Association, Greek Branch.

Honors and Awards

• European Citizen 2018 Award from the European Union

• International Olympic Committee Trophy 2018: «Olympism in Action» for his contribution to the Sports and Olympism

• Winner of Greek, European and World championships in Sailing in the 90’s and member of Greek Olympic team in Atlanta 1996 Games, 1996

• Member of the Greek National Team in Sailing for 11 years, winning more than 20 metals.
