He previously served as Pakistan Ambassador to the United States and to the European Union.[1][2] BiographyBorn in Dhaka, British India, Fatemi went on to serve as a career foreign service officer and has held diplomatic missions throughout his career.[3] In addition, he also provided his foreign policy expertise to represent Pakistan's case at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Aside from foreign service, he has briefly taught courses on International relations at the Foreign Service Academy and as well as courses on Security studies at the National Defence University and the Quaid-i-Azam University. A key member of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), he is the author of the book, "The Future of Pakistan", and has repeatedly appeared in news media to comment on foreign affairs of the country.[3] He is an expert on Russian studies and is fluent in Russian language.[1] In April 2017, the Prime Minister's Office issued directives to remove Fatemi from his post as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, for his alleged role in Dawn Leaks.[4] Earlier, an inquiry committee had held Fatemi responsible for the Dawn Leaks.[5] The allegation was rejected by Fatemi in a farewell letter.[6] References1. ^1 {{cite web|last=MOFA|title=Profile of SYED TARIQ FATEMI|url=http://www.mofa.gov.pk/content.php?pageID=sa|work=Government of Pakistan|publisher=Ministry of Foreign Affairs Press Release|accessdate=13 July 2018}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Fatemi, Tariq}}{{Sharif III Cabinet}}2. ^{{cite web|last=Staff|title=Will the real Foreign Minister please stand up?|url=http://www.dawn.com/news/1017964|publisher=Dawn|accessdate=13 July 2018}} 3. ^1 {{cite web|last=Participants of the Brookings Institution|title=Participants of the Brookings Institution (includes profile of Tariq Fatemi)|url=http://www.brookings.edu/~/media/research/files/papers/2010/9/bellagio%20conference%20papers/09_bellagio_biographies.pdf|publisher=Brookings Institution|accessdate=13 July 2018|deadurl=|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20140514093056/http://www.brookings.edu/~/media/research/files/papers/2010/9/bellagio%20conference%20papers/09_bellagio_biographies.pdf|archivedate=14 May 2014|df=dmy-all}} 4. ^{{cite news |title=Tariq Fatemi removed from post by PM following inquiry into Dawn story |url=https://www.dawn.com/news/1330010 |accessdate=26 June 2018 |work=Dawn|date=29 April 2017}} 5. ^{{cite news |title=Inquiry report holds Tariq Fatemi responsible for Dawn leaks |url=https://tribune.com.pk/story/1388608/inquiry-report-holds-tariq-fatemi-responsible/ |accessdate=26 June 2018 |work=Express Tribune|date=20 April 2017}} 6. ^{{cite news |title=Tariq Fatemi rejects inquiry committee allegations against him in farewell letter |url=https://www.dawn.com/news/1330578 |accessdate=26 June 2018 |work=Dawn|date=2 May 2017}} 21 : 1944 births|Bengali educators|People from Dhaka|Pakistani people of Bengali descent|University of the Punjab alumni|University of Dhaka alumni|Moscow State University alumni|Conservatism in Pakistan|National Defence University, Pakistan faculty|Quaid-i-Azam University faculty|Pakistani political scientists|Pakistani academics|Pakistani scholars|Foreign Secretaries of Pakistan|Ambassadors of Pakistan to the United States|Pakistan studies|Russian studies scholars|Pakistan Muslim League (N) politicians|Ambassadors of Pakistan to the Democratic Republic of the Congo|Living people|Russian–Urdu translators |
