It was composed not later than 1625 and is scored for four voices and basso continuo. The text is a dialogue based on the episode, narrated in the Gospel of John, of Jesus appearing to Mary of Magdala ({{Sourcetext|source=Bible|version=King James|book=John|chapter=20|verse=13|range=–17}}). It is concluded by Martin Luther's Eastern hymn "Christ ist erstanden von dem Tod".[1] Musical means were taken from the composer's 1623 Historia of the Resurrection, which includes the same Gospel text. A review of a recording notes: "A setting of Mary Magdalene's recognition of the risen Jesus, it is notable in its expressive intensity and in its retention of motives and harmonic gestures from the earlier "Resurrection History."[4] The piece was in 1922 included in the first festival of the Heinrich-Schütz-Gesellschaft in Dresden, together with the Christmas Story and other selected works.[5] A manuscript is kept in the library of the University of Kassel. Its date is assumed between 1627 and 1732.[6] It was part of an exhibition in 2010, celebrating the 425th anniversary of the composer's birth by showing manuscripts, librettos, first prints, documents and instruments.[7] Publication and recordingsWeib, was weinest du was published in 1968 by Bärenreiter as part of the Neue Schütz-Ausgabe.[8] The piece is part of the complete edition of the composer's works by Carus-Verlag, begun in 1992 as the Stuttgart Schütz Edition and planned to be completed by 2017. The edition uses the {{lang|de|Heinrich-Schütz-Archiv}} of the {{lang|de|Hochschule für Musik Dresden}}.[9]References1. ^1 {{cite web| url = http://www.carus-verlag.com/index.php3?selSprache=1&BLink=Schuetz-Ausgabe| title = Heinrich Schütz – Stuttgart Schütz Edition| publisher = Carus-Verlag| accessdate = 24 January 2014}} [1][2][3][4][5][6]2. ^1 2 {{cite web| url = http://emmanuelmusic.org/notes_translations/translations_motets/t_swv443_schutz.htm| title = Heinrich Schütz: "Weib, was weinest du?," SWV 443| publisher = Emmanuel Music| accessdate = 7 July 2014}} 3. ^1 {{cite book| last = Gottwald| first = Clytus| authorlink = Clytus Gottwald| url = https://books.google.com/books?id=jwOvo5l9Y1kC&pg=PA92| title = Die Handschriften der Universitätsbibliothek Kassel, Landesbibliothek und Murhardsche Bibliothek: / Manuscripta musica| publisher = Otto Harrassowitz Verlag| year = 1997| page = 92| language = German| isbn = 3-44-703775-X}} 4. ^1 {{cite web| last = Mandel| first = Christine| url = https://idw-online.de/pages/de/news?print=1&id=370457| title = Universitäsbibliothek Kassel: Einblicke in die weltweit reichste Heinrich Schütz-Sammlung| publisher = idw-online.de| date = 20 May 2010| language = German| accessdate = 7 July 2014}} 5. ^1 {{cite book| last = Varwig| first = Bettina | url = https://books.google.com/books?id=9OlNfxjwFAkC&pg=PA47| title = Histories of Heinrich Schütz / Musical Performance and Reception| publisher = Cambridge University Press| year = 2011| page = 47| isbn = 1-13-950201-8}} 6. ^1 {{cite book| url = https://books.google.com/books/about/Dialogo_Per_la_Pascua.html?id=3E8MtwAACAAJ&redir_esc=y| title = Dialogo Per la Pascua: Weib, was weinest du?
