词条 | 1899 Monaghan County Council election |
释义 |
The first election to Monaghan County Council took place in April 1899 as part of that year's Irish local elections. CampaignUnder the Chairmanship of Col. John Leslie, the county Unionist Association met in early January to decide how to proceed, as there was an expectation that the party would be largely frozen out of the election, winning no more than five or six seats. As a result, the association attempted to build stronger links with Independent candidates, whilst also committing itself to contesting every possible seat. As a result, the association set up a Voters' Association, under the Honorary Presidency of W. Martin.[1] Aggregate results{{Election Summary Begin|title = Monaghan County Council election, 1899}}{{Election Summary Party||party = Nationalist Party (Ireland) |seats = 18 |gain = |loss = |net = |seats % = |votes % = 71.56 |votes = 8,619 |plus/minus = }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Irish Unionist |seats = 1 |gain = |loss = |net = |seats % = |votes % = 22.80 |votes = 2,746 |plus/minus = }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Independent (politician) |seats = 1 |gain = |loss = |net = |seats % = |votes % = 8.71 |votes = 1,049 |plus/minus = }}{{Election box end}} Ward resultsBallybay{{Election box begin|title=Ballybay[2][3]}}{{Election box winning candidate with party link||party = Nationalist Party (Ireland) |candidate = Bernard McKenna |votes = 370 |percentage = |change = }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Irish Unionist |candidate = Joseph McLean |votes = 119 |percentage = |change = }}{{Election box majority| |votes = |percentage = |change = }}{{Election box turnout| |votes = |percentage = |change = }}{{Election box end}} Ballymackay{{Election box begin|title=Ballymackay[2]}}{{Election box winning candidate with party link||party = |candidate = J.
