Former Carlisle Indians player Gus Welch played at quarterback for Camp Meade.[1] Eddie Thayer, a former Penn star who played in Camp Meade's backfield, was selected by Walter Camp as a third-team player on the 1917 All-Service football team.[2] Everett "Hook" Mylin, formerly of Franklin and Marshall, was the team captain. He was wounded while fighting in France in 1918.[3] In 1918, Camp Meade did not field an all-cantonment team. Instead, the camp organized company teams with multiple games played each week.[4][5] Schedule{{CFB schedule|attend=yes | source = yes |November 3|at|League Island Marines|Shibe Park|Philadelphia|W 9-7||[6] |November 24|vs|Allentown Ambulance Corps|Circus Maximus Field|Reading, PA|L 14-20|8,000|[1][7] |December 1|vs|Camp Dix|Franklin Field|Philadelphia|L 6-13|5,000|[8] }} References1. ^1 {{cite news|title=USAACS Defeat Camp Meade by 20 to 14, But Welch Almost Turns Tide Near Close|newspaper=The Washington Post|date=November 25, 1917|page=24|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/22482279/usaacs_defeat_camp_meade_by_20_to_14/|via=Newspapers.com}} {{World War I military service football teams navbox}}2. ^{{cite journal|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=bZxCAQAAIAAJ&pg=PA141&dq=collier%27s+%22short+story%22&hl=en#v=onepage&q=All-America&f=false|journal=Collier's Weekly|title=War and Football|volume=60|page=32|date=January 5, 1918}} 3. ^{{cite news|title=Hook Mylin Is Wounded In France|newspaper=Pittsburgh Post-Gazette|date=October 26, 1918|page=10|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/22495003/hook_mylin_is_wounded_in_france/|via=Newspapers.com}} 4. ^https://www.newspapers.com/image/80708031/ 5. ^https://www.newspapers.com/image/372966234/ 6. ^{{cite news|title=Field Goal Gives Camp Meade Eleven Victory Over Marines: Thayer's Boot Gives Camp Meade Victory|newspaper=The Philadelphia Inquirer|date=November 4, 1917|page=20|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/7090223/the_philadelphia_inquirer/|via=Newspapers.com}} 7. ^{{cite news|title=Ambulance Hands Camp Meade Jolt|newspaper=The Philadelphia Inquirer|date=November 25, 1917|page=19|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/7090613/the_philadelphia_inquirer/|via=Newspapers.com}} 8. ^{{cite news|title=Regimental Team of Camp Dix Wins Game From Camp Meade: Anderson's 83-Yard Run Wins Game for Camp Dix|newspaper=The Philadelphia Inquirer|date=December 2, 1917|page=21|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/22336790/regimental_team_of_camp_dix_wins_game/|via=Newspapers.com}} 2 : 1917 college football season|1917 in sports in Maryland |
