The station was built by the New York Central & Hudson River Railroad as part of an agreement with New York City. The station was built during the late 1870s, although trains never stopped here.[1] Currently, the station is used as an emergency exit for Metro-North Railroad in the Park Avenue Tunnel.[2] Station layout{{GCT track map}}The station is located in the Park Avenue Tunnel between 58th Street and 59th Street. The platforms are {{convert|12|ft|m}} wide by {{convert|150|ft|m}} long and are located on the outer sides of the tunnel.[3] The station's waiting room, ticket offices, and toilets were located at platform level.[4] At the northern end of each of the waiting rooms, staircases, which are still intact and can be accessed from both sides of Park Avenue, led to 59th Street.[5][6]{{Rp|10, 72}} The exits to the sidewalk were covered by a wooden house.[7] References1. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.columbia.edu:80/~brennan/beach/chapter13.html|title=THE UNDERGROUND RAILWAY, NEW YORK CITY|last=Scientific American|first=|date=1875|author=|website=www.columbia.edu|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090504110641/http://www.columbia.edu/~brennan/beach/chapter13.html|archive-date=May 4, 2009|dead-url=yes|access-date=September 17, 2018|df=}} 2. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.nytimes.com/1984/02/23/nyregion/fire-postscript-2000-stuck-in-tunnel.html|title=FIRE POSTSCRIPT: 2,000 STUCK IN TUNNEL|last=Hudson|first=Edward|date=February 23, 1984|work=The New York Times|access-date=June 19, 2018|language=en}} 3. ^{{Cite web|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090504110641/http://www.columbia.edu:80/~brennan/beach/chapter13.html|title="The Underground Railway, New York City" 1875|last=Brennan|first=Joseph|date=|website=Columbia University|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090504110641/http://www.columbia.edu:80/~brennan/beach/chapter13.html|archive-date=May 4, 2009|dead-url=yes|access-date=October 9, 2018}} 4. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.columbia.edu/~brennan/abandoned/86st.html|title=Abandoned Stations : 86 St (Park Ave)|last=Brennan|first=Joseph|date=2001–2002|website=www.columbia.edu|access-date=June 16, 2017}} 5. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/showpix?nsta=14203|title=59th Street (Park Ave Tunnel - Abandoned)|last=Ehrlich|first=Peter|date=December 30, 2009|website=nycsubway.org|access-date=June 16, 2017}} 6. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.canadasouthern.com/caso/ett/images/electric-tt-1241.pdf|title=Electric Division New York Terminal District Time-Table No. 54A For Employees Only|last=|first=|last2=|date=December 14, 1941|website=canadasouthern.com|publisher=New York Central Railroad|access-date=}} 7. ^{{Cite journal|last=|first=|date=February 13, 1875|title=The Underground Railway, New York City|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=_ZwoAQAAMAAJ&pg=PA93&lpg=PA93&dq=Scientific+American+new+york+central+improvement+February+13,+1875.&source=bl&ots=0oDaz_Ts-r&sig=doy15NPxvETGzTAXA_RQPeM_h3I&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjO-dCmh-DbAhXutlkKHcd4BJYQ6AEIKTAA#v=onepage&q=Scientific%20American%20new%20york%20central%20improvement%20February%2013%2C%201875.&f=false|journal=Scientific American|volume=32|issue=7|page=98|pages=|access-date=June 19, 2018|via=}} 5 : Defunct railway stations in New York (state)|Former New York Central Railroad stations|Railway stations in Manhattan|Park Avenue|Upper East Side |
