释义 |
}} Bust quarter refers to several designs of former United States coins. Basic Information and a brief overviewThere are two types of bust quarters: Draped Bust (1797–1807) then Capped bust (1815–1828) The bust quarter was the first quarter to be issued by the United States Mint. The authorization of this denomination was in 1792 but not issued until 1796. With this coin being the first year of the quarter, it was not the first type of coin or the oldest coin issued by the U.S. Mint. DesignThe design of the Draped Bust quarter was probably done by Gilbert Stuart and the engraving was also done by Stuart. For the Capped Bust quarter I have John Reich for both. Ky and semi-key datesA key or semi-key date is a rare and/or scarce date. For the Draped Bust Quarters the 1796 is a rare one. That is a key date. The key date for the Capped Bust is the 1823 3 over a 2. The only semi-key for the Draped Bust is the 1804. The semi keys for the Capped Bust are: 1815, 1825 25 over 50 cents, 1824 4 over 2, 1825 5 over 2, and 1825 25 cents over 50 cents. Draped BustThe Draped Bust Quarter was the first quarter dollar piece ever to be minted, and because of that is very expensive to own one. in fact, one sold at auction for over a million dollars. Capped BustThe next type of quarter dollar was the capped bust quarter. Those can range from 30 dollars on up. The ones in better condition are more expensive. Sources
