It is located on the bank of river Bavali between Kelakam town and Hindu Pilgrim center Kottiyoor. Chungakkunnu was a famous place for settlement during Malabar Migration. More than 2000 migrated families still live here. And it is well known for its timber merchants. Most of the people depend on agriculture for their livelihood. Rubber, Coconut, Cashew, and Black pepper are main crops cultivated here.

Palukachi mala, a scenic and picturesque tourist attraction for Trekking, has its entry at this town.

The palukachi mala is one of the topest peak point in kannur district which has an extreme beauty if you reach the spot . Trekking is possible if you get the permission from the forest dept .There is some mythologies also behind this .A beautiful place to visit in kannur .If possible then please avoid going march ,April months due to heavy dry climate .You can pick some water and food while trekking to the destination and notice that do not throw any kind of plastic products there .
