Court Square Park is 0.4 acres bounded by Jefferson Street, Fourth Street N.E., High Street and the Albemarle County Court Building.[1] Paul Goodloe McIntire established the park in 1919 by donating the land to the city of Charlottesville.[1] The Thomas Jonathan Jackson statue has been in the park since 1921. In November 2016 the Blue Ribbon Commission on Race, Memorials and Public Spaces published a report recommending transforming the statue into a monument for remembering racial oppression and to change the name from Jackson Park.[2][3] Until June 2017 the park was named Jackson Park.[4] From June 2017 - July 2018 the park was Justice Park.[4] From July 2018-present it has been named the Court Square Park.[4] References1. ^1 {{cite web |title=Court Square Park - City of Charlottesville |url=http://www.charlottesville.org/departments-and-services/departments-h-z/parks-recreation/parks-trails/city-parks/justice-park-formerly-known-as-jackson-park |website=www.charlottesville.org |language=en}} 2. ^{{cite web |last1=SUAREZ |first1=CHRIS |title=Panel votes to recommend keeping statues in their parks |url=https://www.dailyprogress.com/news/local/panel-votes-to-recommend-keeping-statues-in-their-parks/article_30049e90-a0a5-11e6-80de-f704bb943291.html |website=The Daily Progress |language=en |date=1 November 2016}} 3. ^{{cite web |last1=Hoerauf |first1=Daniel |title=Blue Ribbon Commission shares recommendations with community |url=http://www.cavalierdaily.com/article/2016/11/blue-ribbon-commission-shares-recommendations-with-community |website=The Cavalier Daily |publisher=University of Virginia |date=11 November 2016}} 4. ^1 2 *{{cite web |title=Charlottesville City Council changes the names of two renamed parks |url=https://www.dailyprogress.com/news/local/city/charlottesville-city-council-changes-the-names-of-two-renamed-parks/article_9ac64d52-8963-11e8-853a-a3864982745e.html |website=The Daily Progress |language=en |date=16 July 2018}}*{{cite web |title=Charlottesville City Council Votes to Rename Lee, Jackson Parks |url=http://www.nbc29.com/story/35595559/charlottesville-city-council-votes-to-rename-lee-jackson-parks |website=nbc29.com |publisher=WVIR-TV |language=en |date=5 June 2017}} External links
