The 2018-19 Hashtag United season is the club's first season of non-league play in the English football pyramid. The club is competing in the Eastern Counties Football League Division One North League.

Background

On May 27, 2018, Hashtag United announced via their YouTube account that they would be joining the English Football League System. They were originally placed in Division One of the Spartan South Midlands League, before being moved to the Eastern Senior League after appealing that it was more suited to their Essex roots..[1]

Prior to this, Hashtag played as a Sunday League club, and participated in friendlies against teams such as the Comedians XI, Google staff, and a Manchester City staff team, along with several exhibition cup competitions such as the EE Wembley Cup. They continue to participate in Sunday League football with a reserve team[2]

Hashtag United overhauled the majority of their roster prior to joining the non-league pyramid. After Hashtag joined the pyramid, founder and popular YouTuber Spencer Owen stepped down as manager and has replaced by former East Thurrock United assistant manager Jay Devereux.
