Alan Olsen (born 1960), is managing partner of Silicon Valley CPA firm GROCO. Alan is also host of a radio/social media talk show called American Dreams. On top of his two day jobs, he has been quite involved with philanthropy throughout his career. Alan is an advocate for higher education serving on President Kim Clark's Advancement Council at BYU-Idaho from 2008-2011. Most recently, in August 2018, he joined the Board of Trustees at Southern Virginia University--a predominantly LDS based university located in Buena Vista Virginia.

Alan received his bachelors in accounting from BYU in 1984 and his MBA (taxation) from Cal State East Bay in 1992.

Career

Alan began his career working for the IRS as an IRS agent. After his wife, Susan made him quit that job he was hired by Deloitte to work as an Tax manager. After working with Deloitte for 3 years, Alan moved on and was hired by GROCO (then known as Greenstein Rogoff Wetzel and Chu) He quickly moved up the corporate ladder and was made partner. In 2003, when firm co-founder Barry Rogoff passed away, Alan took his position as managing partner. In the 20+ years Alan has been at GROCO he has brought the firm to national award recognition.^[1] Alan has become a world class expert on American tax law and was quoted in 2016 on Trump's audits. ^[2]

In early 2011 Alan created the tv show American Entrepreneur, which highlighted local silicon valley entrepreneurs. The show format would consist of Alan sitting down and talking with his guests about their business, how and why they started their business and the challenges that they have faced since becoming an entrepreneur. The show ran winter to spring of 2011.

In 2011, as American Entrepreneur was wrapping filming, Alan was asked by AM1220 KDOW, a Bay Area business radio station, to be a guest on one of their more popular shows during tax season, talking about tax. After the programs success, the radio station offered Alan a contract for his own show, which eventually became American Dreams.

American Dreams is a show, similar to American Entrepreneur in that it highlights the journey entrepreneurs take to find success. But the the target audience is much younger than that of the shows predecessor. American Dreams is targeted at young adults just entering the workforce or still in college ages 18-35. The program currently has more than 250 episodes. Some notable guests have been Joe Lacob, owner of Golden State Warriors. Sebastian Thrun, founder of X, Google Stelf driving car and Google Glass, Ken Blanchard, Tim Draper, Scott McNealy etc. The show is also filmed and posted to YouTube.

Personal Life

Alan is the father of seven kids and grandfather to 15. He resides in Fremont California with his wife Susan. Alan is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
