Anita Nowak is author, social impact coach, public speaker[2] and expert on empathy and emphatic action.[3][4][5] She teaches social entrepreneurship and leadership at Desautels Faculty of Management.[6] She holds a doctoral degree from McGill University where she was named Professor of the Year in 2014[7]. Anita has held a variety of leadership and advisory roles within the private and non-profit sectors and has served as a volunteer for many social purpose organizations over the past 15 years, both locally and internationally.[8]

Work

Anita helped launched the [https://www.mcgill.ca/desautels/integrated-management/mdiim-initiatives/social-economy-initiative Social Economy Initiative] (SEI) at McGill’s Desautels Faculty of Management in 2012, and served as its integrating director during which time she was responsible for integrating social entrepreneurship and social innovation into teaching, research, and development awareness of the faculty.[9][10]She was a director of operations and co-designer for the [https://www.mcgill.ca/desautels/programs/grooc Social Learning for Social Impact] Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) that was led by Henry Mintzberg and produced by McGill’s Teaching and Learning Services.[11] [12]

She also worked as advisor to The J.W. McConnell Foundation and the Jeanne Sauvé Foundation in Montréal.[1]

Books

Anita is currently writing a book called The Empaths Strike Back: Stories of Everyday Heroes Using Empathy to Change the World.[13] The book sets forth the argument that the world is suffering from a massive empathy deficit and presents scientific evidence that humans are hard-wired for good.
