Charles Saba

Charles Saba (Arabic: شارل سابا - Born 4 March, 1984) is a Lebanese political advisor & coordinator of the Lebanese Corruption Observatory (M.A.L.A.F)

Early Life

Charles Saba was born on March 4, 1984 in the town of Maalaka, Zahlé.

Saba grew up in the village of Karak, and attended the [https://antonineszk.org/wp/ St-Joseph Antonine School]. In 2002, Saba enrolled at Paris-Est Creteil (UEPC) university in France. After a few month he transferred to Lebanon where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Political Science and International Relations from Sagesse University.

In 2007, Saba obtained a Master's degree in Political Science and from the St-Joseph University in Beirut and in 2009 he graduated with a second Master's Degree in Diplomacy & International Relations from Paris-Sud.

Career

Journalism

For 2 years, Saba was a journalist at the prominent Lebanese newspaper, An-Nahar. He then continued his journalistic career through VDL a local radio where he handled hosting, producing and writing content material for political radio shows for over 10 years.

Research & Introduction to Politics

In 2010, Saba joined former M.P Issam Fares and became the assistant director to the Issam Fares Research Center for Lebanon (IFCL)[1]. During his time at IFCL, a prime component of his work and research covered the analysis of the cooperative roles and complex impacts of national governments’, intergovernmental organizations’, confrontation of global security threats and brokerage of peace. Saba also worked closely on preparing panels on the matters of “Electoral law”,  “Neutrality”, “Political Islam”, “Women rights in the Islamic shariaa”, “Palestinian rights in the refugees’ camps” as well as writing proposals and policy recommendations related to Lebanese politics and administration.

In 2014, Saba began his career as a political advisor in public administration to the President of the Lebanese Phalanges Party, M.P. Samy Gemayel. He is tasked with overseeing the agendas of the council of ministers and council of parliament sessions. He monitors issues of corruption in the Lebanese Public Administration, working as a liaison officer with the current administration & providing the appropriate recommendations, actions & follow up on policy issues.

M.A.L.A.F

In 2015, Saba was one of the founding members of the Lebanese Corruption Observatory (M.A.L.A.F)[2] to which he became the coordinator. MALAF is an ngo who works towards monitoring, reporting and assessing the issues of corruption in the Lebanese public administration, making them available to the public. Their mission is to stop corruption and promote transparency, accountability and integrity at all levels and across all sectors of the Lebanese, government, institutions & society.

Political Career

2016 Municipal Elections

In June 2016, Saba announced his candidacy to the municipal elections for the DIstrict of Zahlé. Elections were held in July and Saba one a seat at the municipality council with 10446 votes[3]. He is a member of the municipality's bidding committee and social assistance committee.

2018 Parliamentary Elections

In February of 2018, supported by his party[4], Saba announced his candidacy for the Orthodox seat in Zahle, for the 2018 Lebanese parliamentary elections. In March of 2018 Saba was forced to withdrew his candidacy from the elections stating personal reasons for that matter. He is currently preparing for a bid to run for the 2022 parliamentary elections.

Personal Life

Charles Saba is the son of Rizkallah Saba, a government employee[5], and Laurette Tannoury, a school teacher. He is the youngest of 5 children, Saba has two brothers and two sisters.
