ESCUELA NAUTICA DE VERACRUZ "Cap. Alt. Fernando Siliceo y Torres"

The Nautical School in Veracruz is an educational institution at a higher level, it is dedicated to the training of sea professionals and to the training of the subordinate personnel of the merchant marine and fishermen. It was founded in 1919, thanks to the efforts of Cap. Alt. Fernando Siliceo y Torres, named after the School of Commerce and Navigation for the National Merchant Navy, in 1924 its name was changed to that of Merchant Nautical School, developing its activities in the lighthouse building directed by the same Cap. Siliceo until his death in 1933. In January 1937 he closed his doors for lack of support. On January 1, 1939, he resumed his activities in the lighthouse building, under the direction of Cap. Alt. Marcelino Tuero Molina. In the year of 1949, it is established in its current address, and on July 1, 1976, the boarding school is inaugurated.

On February 5, 1919, Merchant Marine Captain Fernando Siliceo y Torres, graduated from the Nautical School of Campeche, Camp., Inaugurated the School of Commerce and Nautical, name that responded to a national need of the moment. According to Constitutional Article 32, promulgated on February 5, 1917, the Mexican Navy was nationalized, and it was decreed as an indispensable condition to be a marine, to have Mexican nationality by birth.

The School at the beginning, took the name of Commerce and Nautical, was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, as well as, by the Government of the State of Veracruz. The campus had its first location in the street of Prim No. 39. Currently, the building belongs to a private individual as a home-room and office.

The inauguration of the School was carried out with the presence of the Governor of the State of Veracruz, the Civil and Military Authorities of the Port, members of the National Chamber of Commerce, Director and Teachers of the School.

Subsequently, the School changed its location to the Faros Building, being subsidized by the Federal Government, and the Directorate General of Studies, of Veracruz State Government. The students supported the school with fees, working three years after the death of its founder Don Fernando Siliceo y Torres.

When the subsidy received from the Federation in 1937 was suspended, the school was forced to close its doors, locating its students in the Nautical School of Mazatlan. In 1939, at the request of the Maritime Organizations of Veracruz Port, the School was again opened in the same building "Faros".

In 1945, President Mr. Manuel Ávila Camacho, order the building where it is currently located.

Finally, the school was inaugurated in 1950, by President Mr. Miguel Alemán, being the principal of the campus the Captain Admiral Don Marcelino Tuero y Molina.

The flagging of the Merchant Nautical School of Veracruz was held on June 1, 1981 by the President Mr. José López Portillo.
