The Fondation Rosa Abreu de Grancher, formerly Maison de Cuba, is one of 40 university residences at the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris. HistoryAlthough the concept of a residence for international students in Paris was conceived and launched in 1920 by André Honnorat, Minister of Education, and Émile Deutsch de la Meurthe, the Maison de Cuba, now Fondation Rosa Abreu de Grancher, was created from a donation in 1929 by Pierre Sanchez Abreu and his sister Rosalia. It was named in honor of their aunt, Rosa Abreu, of Cuban origin, and her husband, French pediatrician Jacques-Joseph Grancher. The house was designed by renowned architect Albert Laprade in Spanish Colonial style. Construction began in 1930 and finished in 1933.
