Her books are published by Norstedts förlag and are widely read and discussed, especially by readers interested in international development issues or have “ex-pat experiences”[1]. Before the debut 2012 of Innan Floden Tar Oss[2] (‘Before the Flood Takes Us’, available in English on Amazon July 2019) Thorfinn worked as a journalist in national print and media in Sweden, and also produced documentaries for national TV. In the 90's Thorfinn worked as stringer for Swedish Broadcasting in the UK. BiographyIn 2000 Thorfinn started to work for Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, Sida as a gender advisor. Between 2005-2009 she was based as analyst/first secretary at the Swedish Embassy in Dhaka[3][4], Bangladesh, where she initiated a qualitative results frame work called Reality Checks. It won great acclaim among development partners[5]. The time in Bangladesh inspired her to write her first novel that is set in the fascinating but peculiar world of international ex-pats in an extreme poverty ridden country[6]. The book was written and published during her time at LUFS 2010-2012. It was widely discussed when it was published and Thorfinn appeared on many tv-shows and conferences to discuss development aid, and was voted one of Sweden's most influential voices in human rights and development 2013[7]. In 2014 Thorfinn moved to Burma/Myanmar where she worked for various development partners, amongst them Swedish Embassy, UNICEF, Save the Children and UNDP. She also started to scope for an NGO focused on “girl issues” called MeSheWe[8]. While living in Myanmar/Burma Helena Thorfinn visited several Asian literature festivals where she participated in panels and seminars[9]. Since 2018 Thorfinn lives in Washington DC and is said to be writing a book about Myanmar/Burma, as well as preparing the launch of MeSheWe[10]. BibliographyNovels
