Majid Naficy ({{lang-fa|{{Nastaliq|مجید نفیسی}}}}), the Arthur Rimbaud of Persian poetry[1], was born in Isfahan, Iran in 1952. At age fourteen, he published poetry in Jong magazine and became the youngest member of Jonge-e Isfahan literary circle.

His first collection of poems In the Tiger’s Skin ({{lang-fa|در پوست ببر}}) was published in 1969. One year later his book of literary criticism, Poetry as a Structure ({{lang-fa| شعر بعنوان یک ساخت}}) appeared. In 1971 his children’s book The Secret of Words ({{lang-fa| راز کلمه‌ها}}), published by Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults won a national award in Iran.

In the seventies, Majid Naficy was politically active against the Shah’s regime. After the 1979 Revolution, the new theocratic regime began to suppress the opposition, and more than ten relatives, including his first wife [https://www.iranrights.org/memorial/story/-4273/ezzat-tabaiyan Ezzat Tabaian], his brother Saeed and his brother-in-law [https://www.iranrights.org/memorial/story/-4972/hossein-okhovat-moqaddam Hossein Okhovat-Moqadam] were executed.

He fled Iran in 1983 and spent a year and a half in Turkey and France. Majid Naficy then settled in Los Angeles where he lives with his son, Azad[2].

He has since published two collections of poetry in English Muddy Shoes (Beyond Baroque, Books, 1999)[3] and Father and Son (Red Hen Press, 2003)[4] as well as his doctoral dissertation at UCLA Modernism and Ideology in Persian Literature: A Return to Nature in the Poetry of Nima Yushij (University Press of America, 1997)[5].

Majid Naficy is one of the six poets featured in the film Poetry of Resilience[6] directed by the Oscar-nominated documentary film-maker Katja Esson.

He was the first writer in residence in Annenberg Community Beach House, Santa Monica in 2009-10. His poetry has been engraved by the City in public spaces in Venice Beach and Studio City. His life and work were featured in LA Weekly, February 9-15, 2001 written by Louise Steinman, entitled "Poet of Revolution: Majid Naficy's Tragic Journey Home"[7].

In January 2014, his Portrait was aired on VOA-PNN.
