Michael Hart is a Canadian physician and advocate for medicinal cannabis reform. He is the founder of the ReadyToGo Medical Clinic in London, Ontario, where he serves as the medical director. Hart is the first physician in London to open a cannabis clinic.[1] In addition to his involvement in the Canadian medicinal cannabis legalization movement, Hart is a public advocate for including medicinal cannabis in insurance coverage offered by the Canadian government, as well as by private insurers.[2] He is also an advocate for removing sales tax from medicinal cannabis.[3] He has been featured as a pro-cannabis physician on the documentary Grass Fed, at the LIFT & Co Cannabis Expo, and as a guest on The Joe Rogan Experience and The Self Made Man.[4][5][6] His book Friendly Fire: Why Vets Are Ditching Pills and Lighting Up to Treat PTSD was ranked as an Amazon Best Seller in Psychopharmacology.[7] CareerHart began his career in general family practice with an emphasis on preventive medicine, after graduating from Saba University School of Medicine in 2010 and completing his residency at the University of Western Ontario Schulich School of Medicine.[8] In his clinical practice, he noticed patients with chronic pain and PTSD were not experiencing adequate relief with available treatments.[9] Hart saw promise in cannabis as a safer and more efficacious alternative to commonly prescribed painkillers, such as opioids and benzodiazepines.[10] He began prescribing cannabis in 2014,[11] increasing patient access to medicinal cannabis at a time when the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) recommended against the use of medicinal cannabis.[12] By 2015 he was working with a branch of Marijuana For Trauma in Markham, Ontario, a clinical facility that specializes in assisting veterans in accessing medicinal cannabis,[9][11] despite the CPSO only amending their policies to offer support for “cautious and compassionate prescription” of medicinal cannabis in 2016 in compliance with Canadian court rulings requiring “reasonable access to a legal source of marijuana.”[13] Later in 2015, Hart was featured in the CBC documentary Grass Fed.[4] The documentary, which detailed comedian Mike Paterson's exploration of cannabis treatment for chronic sciatica back pain, included Hart providing a patient consultation with Paterson. Hart was a keynote speaker at the 2016 LIFT & Co Cannabis Expo, where he presented on the efficacy of medicinal cannabis on patients with PTSD.[5] Hart opened ReadyToGo Medical Clinic in 2017, the first cannabis clinic to open in London, and released his first two e-book guides for patients seeking medical marijuana treatment.[3][14][15] As the medical director of a prominent pro-cannabis clinic, Hart has been invited to speak at Continuing Medical Education events throughout Ontario as well as medicinal cannabis industry events across Canada, including the Cannabis Life Conference and O’Cannabiz. In 2019 Hart debated Alex Berenson's controversial book, Tell Your Children: The Truth About Marijuana, Mental Illness, and Violence, on the The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.[6] Hart was invited on Mike Dillard's podcast The Self Made Man as a health expert on the different types of cannabis products, their effects on the body, and the benefits they can provide medicinally.[16] Published worksHart has co-authored three books with Leafly writer Jeremy Kossen:
