History

The first release was in 2005 [1] and the current version being shipped is v10.1

Technologies

The technologies supported include TCP/IP, Ethernet, Wireless LAN, MANET, IOT,[2] WSN, [3] LTE, Military Radios and more.

Use

NetSim is widely used as a tool for network lab in universities [4] and for network R & D [5][6][7]

A free version is available with the book Computer Networks and Internets by Douglas Comer.[8]

Criticism

NetSim is a proprietary product of TETCOS. Unlike common programming languages such as C or Fortran, NetSim is not managed or specified by a third party standards committee such as American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), etc.

There are also mentioned incompatibilities between versions, where custom protocols developed by users in a lower version doesn't work with higher versions of NetSim.
