Developed by two college athletes with degrees in chemistry, neuroscience, and economics, the initial offering was crowdfunded on Indiegogo.[2] NeuroGum has been covered in publications ranging from Time to The New Yorker and was the focus of a segment on The Dr. Oz Show.[3][2][3] BackgroundCo-creators Kent Yoshimura and Ryan Chen met in college and worked on bringing the product to life while balancing college degrees with their extracurricular schedules.[4] Kent was mixing nootropic supplements in his room while studying neuroscience and training competitively in martial arts. Ryan was captain of his cross country team at Arcadia High School, but a snowboarding injury his sophomore year of college left him paralyzed from the waist down.[1] While using energy drinks themselves to help cram for tests, they noticed their peers using Ritalin and Concerta[5] and they wanted to create a product that would avoid the societal scrutiny of taking energy supplement pills in public.[2] The original supplements they mixed became the first version of NeuroGum.[1] In September of 2015 NeuroGum was launched after a successful Indiegogo campaign which raised over $11,000 in three days and $20,000 overall, doubling the goal of $10,000.[6][7] Since the product was first distributed to its Indiegogo supporters, it has undergone 26 formula improvements.[8] NeuroGum is currently sold in select markets in Mississippi, Michigan, New Jersey, and California, with online retail from Amazon and the company's website.[9][10] Products and ReceptionNeuroGum comes in two flavors, EnlightenMint and CinnaMental, otherwise known as peppermint and cinnamon, respectively. Both flavors contain a combination of caffeine, L-theanine, pyridoxine (vitamin B6), and methylcobalamin (vitamin B12).[11] One piece of gum contains 40 mg of caffeine.[12] NeuroGum is vegan, sugar-free, gluten-free, diary-free, soy-free, and non-GMO; however, it is not kosher.[13][14] References1. ^1 2 {{Cite web|url=https://www.snacknation.com/blog/mct-bar-neuro-gum/|title=Episode 49 {{!}} How NeuroGum and MCT Co. are Leading the Functional Ingredient Revolution {{!}} SnackNation|website=www.snacknation.com|language=en-US|access-date=2018-10-13}} 2. ^1 {{Cite news|url=https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2018/09/24/wework-does-bodegas|title=WeWork Does Bodegas|work=The New Yorker|access-date=2018-10-12|language=en-US}} 3. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.doctoroz.com/episode/3-day-plan-shut-down-your-cravings?video_id=4600151199001|title=Elisabeth Leamy Finds Out Her NeuroGum Test Results|website=www.doctoroz.com|language=en|access-date=2018-10-13}} 4. ^{{Cite news|url=https://spoonuniversity.com/lifestyle/neurogum-keeps-you-awake-without-coffee-jitters|title=NeuroGum Keeps You Awake Without Coffee Jitters|date=2018-05-13|work=Spoon University|access-date=2018-10-13|language=en-US}} 5. ^{{Cite news|url=http://www.geektime.com/2015/09/21/will-memory-boosting-neurogum-chew-into-a-share-of-the-market/|title=Will memory-boosting NeuroGum chew into the market?|date=2015-09-21|work=Geektime|access-date=2018-10-13|language=en-US}} 6. ^1 {{Cite web|url=http://time.com/4029494/caffeinated-gum/|title=Caffeinated Gum is Now a Thing|website=Time|language=en|access-date=2018-10-11}} 7. ^1 {{Cite web|url=https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/neurogum-the-focus-enhancing-energy-gum#/|title=NeuroGum: The Focus Enhancing Energy Gum|website=Indiegogo|access-date=2018-10-11}} 8. ^{{Cite web|url=https://neurogum.com/pages/our-story|title=Our Story|website=NeuroGum|access-date=2018-10-13}} 9. ^{{Cite web|url=https://neurogum.com/pages/find-a-store|title=NeuroGum {{!}} Find a Store|website=NeuroGum|access-date=2018-10-13}} 10. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.amazon.com/stores/NeuroGum/NeuroGum/page/A77831A7-9A9E-4A0D-B73C-02315EB7D741|title=NeuroGum|website=Amazon.com|language=en-us|access-date=2018-10-13}} 11. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.fastcompany.com/90226859/the-recommender-4|title=The Recommender|date=2018-09-17|work=Fast Company|access-date=2018-10-13|language=en-US}} 12. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.caffeineinformer.com/caffeine-content/neurogum|title=Caffeine in Neurogum Nootropic Chewing Gum|website=www.caffeineinformer.com|access-date=2018-10-13}} 13. ^{{Cite web|url=https://neurogum.com/pages/faqs|title=FAQs {{!}} Find your frequently asked questions|website=NeuroGum|access-date=2018-10-11}} 14. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.buzzfeed.com/katyherman/literally-just-10-products-we-really-love-right-now|title=Literally Just 10 Products We Really Love Right Now|work=BuzzFeed|access-date=2018-10-13|language=en}} External LinksNeuroGum.com 3 : American companies established in 2015|Companies based in Los Angeles|Chewing gum |
