It took place for the 14th time in Sweden following the country's 16th victory at the OGAE Second Chance Contest 2017 in Warsaw, Poland with the song "A Million Years", performed by Mariette. The contest was held in Eskilstuna, and consisted of One final on 13 October 2018. The show was hosted by William Schmatz and Zara Zeidlitz. 27 countries participated in the contest, beating the record of the OGAE Second Chance Contest 2015 and OGAE Second Chance Contest 2015 with 23 countries. Armenia returned after their withdrew in 2011, France returned after their withdrew in 2015, Romania returned after their withdrew in 2017, Serbia returned after their withdrew in 2016, Switzerland returned after their withdrew in 2017. Georgia and Greece withdrew from the contest. The winner was Italy with the song "Il Monda Prima Di Te", performed by Annalisa. This was Italy's fourth victory in the contest, following their wins in OGAE Retro Second Chance Contest 1972, OGAE Second Chance Contest 1997, and OGAE Second Chance Contest 2015.
