Career

Patrick is the founder and CEO of Business Models Inc. an international design company on Innovation and Strategy. He is passionate to help entrepreneurs, leaders, start-ups, rebels and corporate companies to innovate their business model and design a future strategy.[5][6]

Patrick is co-founder of Thirty-X, an Amsterdam based company on visual storytelling exploring business visualization.[7]

Patrick is the producer of the worldwide bestseller book Business Model Generation that sold over 2 million copies and is #2 bestseller on Amazon.[8] Patrick is also the author of the book Design a Better Business, New tools, skills and mindset for strategy and innovation.[9][10][11]

Starting in 1996 he worked as a consultant for Arthur Andersen. After the Enron scandal Deloitte took over the consulting practice in The Netherlands. In 2006 Patrick joined PriceWaterhouseCoopers as a Senior Manager building the new consulting practice.

Patrick worked on Innovation and Visualization with the Amsterdam Based Innovation Lab ULURU. In Spring 2008, Patrick invited Alex Osterwalder to come to Amsterdam to train participants on the essence of the Business Model Canvas.[12] After the workshop Alex, Yves Pigneur and Patrick decided to work together on a new visual business book on Business Model Innovation. Alan Smith, a Toronto based designer joined the team in October that year.[13] In December 2008, they opened a platform on ning.com and laid the basics for self-publishing of their book. They invited readers to pay 24 USD and come to the platform to design the book. After 10 months of writing and design, more than 470 people joined from over 45 countries. The book Business Model Generation was self published in Fall 2009 and published by Wiley in Spring in 2010.[14][15][16]

In Spring 2009, Patrick founded Business Models Inc. a design company on Strategy and Innovation. He aspired to change the business model of consulting by charging fixed fees, introduce rules of the game for engaging on projects and work visually only. Now the company has offices in the US, UK, Europe and Asia.[17][18][19]

In December 2015, Patrick worked on a new visual strategy book. In 100 days he wrote and designed the book Design a Better Business in cooperation with authors Justin Lokitz, Lisa Kay Solomon and designers Erik van der Pluijm and Maarten van Lieshout. The book is published in September 2016 by Wiley.[20]

As a professional speaker, Patrick has delivered over 300 keynotes, presentations and workshops to a wide range of organizations from Australia to Hawaii on the subjects of business model innovation, strategy and visualization.[21]
