释义 |
The Perimeter Hybrid Electric Drone (Perimeter UAV, formerly the Tailwind UAV) is a small unmanned hybrid electric aircraft manufactured by Menlo Park, California based Skyfront Corp. The Perimeter is a multirotor drone that is equipped with either 4 or 8 electric motor-propeller pairs. Because it is gas powered, the Perimeter has an extended flight endurance five to ten times that of battery powered multirotor drones[1]. ConceptThe Perimeter is powered by a hybrid-electric power source that converts gasoline into electricity. The primary mover is a two-stroke gasoline engine that spins a three-phase brushless electric motor that generates electricity. Because the energy density of gasoline is over 100 times that of lithium ion batteries[2], the Perimeter can achieve flight times in excess of four hours[1]. The Perimeter uses a two stroke instead of a four stroke engine because two strokes generally have a higher power-to-weight ratio. A battery is connected in parallel to provide boost power and reserve power in case of engine failure.
