Philip Bro Ludvigsen (born 1962 in Australia) is a Danish industrial designer who has mostly specialized in furniture, lighting and other products for the home interior[1]. His design often applies organic or rounded shapes and he generally uses soft or natural materials[2]. He has often been innovative in his design,[3], which for example can be seen in his ‘UnderCover’ lamp that has interchangeable shades (designed for Danish Le Klint in a collaboration with Finnish Marimekko).[4] [5] [6] CareerPhilp Bro Ludvigsen graduated 1989 from Denmark’s School of Design in Copenhagen. After working for several Danish design offices, like Knud Holscher Design, Pelikan Design[7] and Komplot Design he started own design office in 2001 under the name Philip Bro Design. He belongs to a generation of Danish designers that have had a more playful or whimsical approach to design than the traditional modernist designers. This can be seen in the stretched version of Arne Jacobsens The Ant Chair, where Philip Bro, along with his colleague Thomas Krause, ‘morphed’ this design icon into a bench[8][9]. Other designers in this category are for example Louise Campbell, Morten Voss, Niels Hvass and Anders Hermansen. Philip Bro Ludvigsens clients include Ikea, Royal Copenhagen, Georg Jensen, Fredericia Furniture, Softline[10] and Lyngby Porcelain among others. Philip Bro Design has participated in numerous exhibitions, especially for many years as a member of the annual Cabinetmakers Fall Exhibition[11][12]. He has also won several international awards and received the Danish Arts Council three-year grant in 2000. Awards
