He served as Assistant Head Coach for Portland Timbers from 2010-2012 after serving as Assistant Head Coach and Director of Player Development for LA Galaxy from 2006-2010. A former player, James began his career as an apprentice with Ipswich Town F.C. in 1975.[1] before playing for Viking FK, Colchester United, Lincoln City F.C. and Los Angeles Lazers. [2]. PlayerJames began his playing career in England as an apprentice with Ipswich Town F.C[2] in 1975. In 1984, James moved to the United States, ending his playing career with the Los Angeles Lazers of the now-defunct Major Indoor Soccer League.[2] CoachAfter his retirement in 1985, James returned to his native England to begin coaching.[2] James was hired as a Youth Academy Coach at Ipswich Town F.C., before moving to Colchester United as the club's Reserve Team Manager. Prior to the start of the 2000/2001 season, James was hired by John Taylor (footballer, born 1964) to be his First Team Coach and Chief Scout at Cambridge United F.C. of the EFL League One.[2] James was named Assistant Head Coach for the LA Galaxy in June 2006.[3] During his time with the Galaxy, he served under three managers (Frank Yallop, Ruud Gullit and Bruce Arena). In 2007, James took on the role of Director of Player Development, overseeing the development of the Los Angeles Galaxy Academy.[3] Under James, the Galaxy Academy won two USL Super-20 League division titles, reached the 2010 Super-20 National Championship and qualified for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs in the U16 and U18 age groups.[4] Upon Head Coach Frank Yallop’s departure from the Galaxy in November 2007,[5] James served as the Galaxy’s interim head coach until May 2008, leading the club in a pair of postseason matches, tying the Vancouver Whitecaps 0-0 and defeating the Minnesota Thunder on penalties following a 1-1 draw.[3] He resumed his role as Assistant Coach following the hiring of Ruud Gullit in January 2010.[6] James left the Galaxy in 2010[3] to become Assistant Head Coach for the Portland Timbers[7] in their inaugural Major League Soccer season. He served for two years under Head Coach John Spencer. In 2014, James became the Head of Scouting and Player Development with Chicago Fire[8] James most recently served as Technical Director for Indy Eleven, where he oversaw the club's transition from the North American Soccer League to the USL Championship.[9] James holds 'A' coaching licenses from UEFA and the United States Soccer Federation.[2] References1. ^{{cite news|url=https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/trevor-still-driving-force-behind-becks-1-164054|title=Trevor still driving force behind Becks|last1=King|first1=Elvin|date=June 3, 2008|publisher=East Anglian Daily Times|ref=1}} 2. ^1 2 3 4 5 {{cite web|url=http://media.calsouth.com/data/Downloads/Coaching%20Education/Bios/TrevorJames_Galaxy.pdf|title=Trevor James – LA Galaxy Assistant Coach/Director of Player Development|last1=South|first1=Cal|website=Cal South|publisher=Cal South|accessdate=2 January 2019|ref=2}} 3. ^1 2 3 {{cite web |last1=Galaxy |first1=Los Angeles |title=LA Galaxy Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development Trevor James departs the club for position with Portland Timbers |url=https://www.lagalaxy.com/post/2010/12/07/la-galaxy-assistant-coach-and-director-player-development-trevor-james-departs-club |website=LAGalaxy.com |publisher=LAGalaxy.com |accessdate=2 January 2019 |ref=3}} 4. ^{{cite web |title=Head of Scouting Trevor James Bio |url=https://www.chicago-fire.com/trevor-james |website=chicago-fire.com |publisher=Chicago Fire |accessdate=2 January 2019 |ref=4}} 5. ^{{cite web |last1=Jones |first1=Grahame L |last2=Cardenas |first2=Jaime |title=Yallop leaves Galaxy, expected to get San Jose job |url=http://articles.latimes.com/2007/nov/05/sports/sp-galaxy5 |website=LATimes.com |publisher=Los Angeles Times |accessdate=2 January 2019 |ref=5}} 6. ^{{cite web |title=Ruud Gullit named new head coach |url=https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2010/01/23/ruud-gullit-named-new-head-coach |website=MLSSoccer.com |publisher=Major League Soccer |accessdate=2 January 2019 |ref=6}} 7. ^{{cite web |title=Timbers Announce MLS Coaching Staff |url=https://www.timbers.com/post/2010/12/07/timbers-announce-mls-coaching-staff |website=Timbers.com |publisher=Portland Timbers |accessdate=2 January 2019 |ref=7}} 8. ^{{cite web |title=Chicago Fire Soccer Club Names Trevor James Head of Scouting |url=https://www.chicago-fire.com/post/2014/03/26/chicago-fire-soccer-club-names-trevor-james-head-scouting |website=chicago-fire.com |publisher=Chicago Fire Communications |accessdate=2 January 2019 |ref=8}} 9. ^{{cite web |title=Indy XI parts ways with assistant coach/scout Trevor James |url=https://www.soctakes.com/2018/03/02/indy-xi-parts-ways-assistant-coach-scout-trevor-james/ |website=soctakes.com |publisher=Soc Takes |accessdate=2 January 2019 |ref=9}} |
