Wouter Wessels is a South African politician. He is a member of the National Assembly of the South African Parliament representing the Freedom Front Plus..[1]

Early Life

Wouter Wessels was born in East London, South Africa[2] He matriculated from Grens Highschool and studied at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein where he got involved in student politics[3]. He started working for the FF Plus full time in 2008 and in 2009 he was appointed as a Director in the Office of the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries[4].

Career

Wessels owned and managed a marketing and branding business before he started a full time career at the FF Plus. In 2008 he started working for the FF Plus[5]. In 2009 he was appointed as the Private Secretary to the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Dr Pieter Mulder. He worked in the Deputy Ministry until he was elected as a member of the Free State Provincial Legislature in 2013 at the age of 28[6].

During his tenure as an MPL he served as a member of the Social Services, Public Accounts and Finance, Economic Development and Infrastructure Development committees of the legislature[7].

He served as the FF Plus's national youth leader from 2011 to 2016[8].

He was elected as MP in 2017 following the retirement of Dr Pieter Mulder[9]. He is currently one of the six youngest MP's in the National Assembly[10][11].

He is his party's parliamentary spokesperson on finance and plays an active role fighting corruption and financial mismanagement in South Africa[12]

He is also the deputy leader of the party in the Free State[13] and the strategy and elections chairperson for the Freedom Front Plus[14].

Personal life

Wouter married Tammy Breedt in 2015. She has been actively involved in party politics since 2006. In 2017 she replaced Wouter as a member of the Free State provincial legislature for the FF Plus[15] [16][17]

During 2018 he and his wife was drugged and robbed in their home[18][19]

Political stances

He fights for the privatisation of South Africa's state owned enterprises which are costing the tax payers billions[20][21]

He fights against the amendment of the South African constitution to allow for expropriation without compensation[22][23]

He takes a stance against the current government blaming the apartheid for their own failures[24] He also fights against affirmative action and racial quotas[25][26][27]
