The university is located in Ogboko, Ideato South LGA, Orlu in Imo State, Nigeria. The university's pioneer Vice Chancellor was Prof. Linus Osuagwu, a former Dean and Professor at the American University of Nigeria, Yola. The current acting vice chancellor is Prof. Dafe Otobo, a Professor of Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management who joined from the University of Lagos (UNILAG.
