He is the first elected attorney general; previous AGs were appointed by the governor. Manibusan was elected in 2014, defeating attorney Michael Evangelista by about a two to one margin.[1] Before he was the Attorney General, Manibusan was the head of the Northern Mariana Islands Department of Public Safety, an Associate Judge of the Superior Court of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands from February 1993 to July 1998,[2] the Presiding Judge of the NMI Superior Court from July 1998 to March 2003,[2] and an attorney in solo private practice.
