He began as a masseur at the Hilton Hotel in Tel Aviv before later setting up Omega Diamonds in Antwerp and running Mercury Diamond, a diamond pricing consultancy. In November 2015, Laniado sold the Blue Moon of Josephine diamond at Sotheby's in Geneva for a world record price of $48.4 million (43.2 million Swiss francs plus fees).
