Since the website was created, it has been through several name changes, with the most notable transition being from its initial name to CSBanana in the early-to-mid 2000s, marking a time when users became able to upload modifications for games other than Counter-Strike. The FounderGameBanana was originally created by Sebastian as a fan site for the bestselling multi-player shooter Counter-Strike. In the early-to-mid 2000s, when CSCentral was renamed CSBanana, the site administration went to Tom, the current owner of GameBanana.
