(25 April 1921 – 13 February 2017[1]) was an American cinematographer. BiographyHirschfeld started his career in 1949 as a cinematographer for documentaries like Jack Arnold's With These Hands. During his life he has worked with directors like Sidney Lumet, John G. Avildsen, Frank Perry, Michael Crichton and Gene Wilder. His most famous work is for Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein: he shot the picture entirely in black-and-white, a rarity in the 1970s. Selected filmography
