It is also tagged as "The Home of Quality Asianovelas". Its first ever Asian drama (locally called "Asianovela" for Korean and Chinese dramas only) was My MVP Valentine from Taiwan.[2]History{{Refimprove section|date=March 2017}}{{Imageframe|width=200|content=|caption=Logo used from 2005 to 2010|align=left}}Even before Asian dramas, Filipinos were long fans of foreign dramas. Soap operas and drama series have become a staple for daytime and primetime viewing in the Philippines. In the 1990s, Mexican telenovelas was the mania, with huge hits like Rosalinda and Marimar attracting ratings above 50%.[3] The word Asianovela comes from the words "Asia" or "Asian" and "Novela" from the word "Telenovela". This term was created to define the difference of a normal telenovela to Asian-produced telenovelas. The slang was first used on local internet forums,[4] then became widely used by Filipino people. Asianovelas have become hits in the 2000s.[5] The huge demand from Filipino viewers has prompted Philippine TV stations to import Taiwanese dramas. After the Taiwanese drama, Amazing Twins,[6] the first Asian drama in the Philippines, and Meteor Garden[7] which became phenomenal, GMA Network starts importing TV series from Taiwan in June 2003, starting with its first drama My MVP Valentine[8] followed by The Poor Prince and Lavender which was the first Asianovela in Philippine Primetime TV.[9] In the same year, the network introduced to Filipino viewers the South Korean dramas, as they premiered the first ever Korean drama in Philippine television, Bright Girl, followed by Endless Love: Autumn in My Heart and Endless Love II: Winter Sonata.[10] In 2005, in celebration of its second anniversary, GMA Network officially revealed a new logo and image campaign in branding the identity of their Asian dramas. GMA The Heart of Asia: The Home of the Best Asian Dramas. The same year, GMA aired Stairway to Heaven, Full House, All About Eve, Attic Cat, My Name Is Kim Sam Soon, Sassy Girl: Chun Hyang, Frog Prince, and Jewel in the Palace.[11] It also became a pioneer in 2012, when Iris began to air. It was the first Korean drama series to air at the midnight slot. It was then followed by Chuno: The Slave Hunter and Lee San, Wind of the Palace. In 2018, in celebration of its 15th anniversary, GMA aired You're My Destiny, the first ever Lakorn (term for Thai drama), and Wings of Love, the first Turkish series. Though not labeled as HoA, Kapuso Network also occasionally airs Filipino-dubbed Asian films as part of its movie presentation block.
