Hina Pervaiz Butt ({{Lang-ur|{{Nastaliq|حنا پرویز بٹ}}}}; born 19 January 1982) is a Pakistani politician who was a Member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab, from May 2013 to May 2018. Currently serving her second term with provincial parliament, Hina Butt has remained one of the youngest parliamentarians to have entered Punjab Assembly.

Early life and education

Butt was born on 19 January 1982 in Lahore.[1]

She received her initial education from Convent of Jesus and Mary, Lahore. She earned the degrees of Bachelor of Science (Hons) in 2004 and received the degree of Master of Business Administration in 2010 from Lahore University of Management Sciences.[1]. Twice she won the Dean’s honour list award for BSc computer sciences and an MBA.

In 2016, she earned Master of Arts in International Relations from Middlesex University campus in Dubai with a distinction in Global Security, globalisation and foreign relations. She was also selected at for the Harvard Kennedy School Education Module ‘Global Leadership and Public Policy for the 21st century’.

Political career

She was elected to the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) on a reserved seat for women in Pakistani general election, 2013.[2][3]

She was re-elected to the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab as a candidate of PML-N on a reserved seat for women in Pakistani general election, 2018.This period has come with landmark bills and resolutions presented by Ms. Butt. The prominent bills included ‘The Punjab Prohibition of Hate Speech’, ‘Reforms in the Admission Policy for Students belonging to Minor Community’, The Punjab Right if Children to Free & Compulsory Education Bill 2014, ‘The Punjab Criminal Law (Protection of Minorities)Bill 2017, ‘Child Marriage Prohibition Bill 2013, ‘Punjab Home Based Workers Bill 2016’, The Punjab Domestic Workers employment Rights Bill 2016’.[4] On 1 April 2019, Hina Pervez Butt submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly secretariat demanding resignation of Finance Minister Asad Umar over “failed policies”.

She has specifically driven towards activism through legislation for human rights and supporting civil society in its implementation and action, the most debated being legislation against forced conversions. She has rendered her services as the General Secretary of First Women Parliamentary Caucus of Punjab, Pakistan (2015-2016) and currently serving as the Women Health Representative of the Women Caucus. She also holds the charge as the General Secretary of the Youth Caucus for the effective implementation of Youth Rights, highlighting issues pertaining to youth in the assembly. She is also closely working with civil society and NGOs on the issues of Minorities and women rights including a task force for the formation of minority commission, which is required for the implementation of minority rights.

As an entrepreneur, Hina has worked and consulted with different non profit organisations for vocational training of women, for the empowerment of Minorities and home based workers. With a special association with young people, she has worked under the Youth Loan scheme to provide startup funds to young entrepreneurs to mentor and train them.
