Peter van den Gheyn ({{lang-nl|Peeter Vanden Ghein}};{{sfn|Tchorski}} 1605[1] or 1607{{sfn|Tchorski}}–1654{{sfn|Tower Bells}} or 1659){{sfn|Tchorski}} was a bell-founder of the Spanish Netherlands (now Belgium). {{anchor|Biography|History}}LifePeter was born into a family of noted bell-founders and himself became the most famous bell-founder of the 17th century.[1] His father was Jan van den Gheyn.{{sfn|Tower Bells}} The family forge was at Mechelen in what is now Belgium.{{sfn|Tower Bells}} His associate was named Peter Deklerk[1] or de Clerck, his uncle by marriage.{{sfn|Tower Bells}} His total production of bells was not great.{{sfn|Tower Bells}} He cast the Salvator bell for {{nowrap|St Rumbold's}} in Mechelen in 1638, which weighed {{convert|15,000|lbs|sp=us|sigfig=2}}{{sfn|Tower Bells}} and cracked in 1696.[2] He also cast the Salvator bell for {{nowrap|St Gudula's}} in Brussels.{{sfn|Tchorski}} He had the curious affectation of inscribing his bells using type of various sizes within the same word.[3] See also
