HistoryA post office called Phalanx was established in 1872, and remained in operation until 1902.[3] The community was named after the local Trumbull Phalanx Company,[4] which was a utopian community based upon Charles Fourier's theories from 1844 to 1848 and again from 1849 to 1852.[5] There were about 200 residents. The community sat on up to 2,000 acres and had farm land, a grist mill, saw mill, oil mill, clothing works, and other enterprises.[2] References1. ^{{GNIS|1062937}} 2. ^1 {{cite book|title=Charles Fourier's the Phalanx: Or, Journal of Social Science|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=a0I2AQAAMAAJ&pg=PA242|year=1845|publisher=Burt Franklin|page=242|chapter=The Trumbull Phalanx}} 3. ^{{GNIS|2060387|name=Phalanx Post Office (historical)}} 4. ^{{cite book|last=Overman|first=William Daniel|title=Ohio Town Names|url=https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015015361465;view=1up;seq=125|year=1958|publisher=Atlantic Press|location=Akron, OH|page=109}} 5. ^{{cite book|last=Pitzer|first=Donald E.|title=America's Communal Utopias|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=Xx9QDquB6fcC&pg=PA461|date=January 1997|publisher=Univ of North Carolina Press|isbn=978-0-8078-4609-4|pages=461, 489}} Further reading
