It was named after Bala Guru Shadanand. The municipality was established on 2 December 2014 by merging the then Village Development Committees of Keurepani, Khartimchha, Kimalung, Mulpani and Tunggochha.[2] It had an area of {{cvt|101.5|km2}} and had a combined population of 13,272 inhabitants.[3] On 10 March 2017 more Village Development Committee Incorporated to Shadanand municipality and the total area of the municipality increased to {{convert|241.15|km2}} and the total population of the municipality is now 31,610.
