Sporttotal (formerly Wige Media^[2]) is a listed company based in Cologne and provider of the live-streaming portal “sporttotal.tv”.

History

Sporttotal AG has been listed on stock exchange since November 7, 2000. In 2013 Sporttotal realized the technical infrastructure of the Sochi Autodrom.^[3] On February 24, 2016 Sporttotal signed a cooperation agreement with the newly founded Alibaba Sports Group, a subsidiary of Alibaba Group.^[4]

In January 2019 Sporttotal announced a collaboration with the Google parent company Alphabet to optimize data analysis on the streaming platform sporttotal.tv, using their AI and Machine Learning technology.^[5]

Overview

Mainly in the sports sector, Sporttotal realizes broadcasts of major events for television stations and commercial enterprises. Besides the amateur football (European football | soccer) portal sporttotal.tv, the company also visually accompanies international motor sport events as well as volleyball, basketball, ice hockey and field hockey.^[6] . Sporttotal also markets individual sport events completely on its own and provides technical and editorial services for industrial customers.

Amateur Football

In 2016 Sporttotal launched the streaming portal sporttotal.tv. For this purpose the company equips amateur football clubs with video technology, which allows a fully automated live broadcast of the matches on the internet. The matches can also be watched on mobile devices. For the streaming platform sporttotal.tv Sporttotal cooperates with Deutscher Fußball-Bund (DFB), Hyundai Motor Company, Allianz, Bild, [Deutsche Post]] and Telekom Deutschland.^[7] The business model is based on refinancing through advertising revenues.

Using the free App e.g. , users can direct how they view a game, determine the perspective and share scenes directly via social media. Besides DFB Sporttotal also cooperates with Fussball.de, the website portal for amateur football in Germany, which is operated by the DFB and its regional associations. By the end of 2018, more than 450 camera systems had already been installed in clubs of 24 regional football associations throughout Germany. The broadcast of the matches is realized by a 180-degree camera technology, which is permanently installed at the field. The innovative software is able to follow the match fully automated – without a chip in the ball or on a player’s body or jersey.^[8]

Motor Sport

Sporttotal broadcasts and markets international motorsport events like the 24 Hours Nürburgring.^[9] In addition to that Sporttotal Event accompanies the Porsche-Driving-Experience, a global event series with Porsche with around 200 events worldwide. ^[10]

Additional Sports

In addition to amateur football and motor sports, Sporttotal also broadcasts matches of the German volleyball Bundesliga, ice hockey, basketball and field hockey matches with fully automatic cameras.

Financial Information

In fiscal year 2017, Sporttotal achieved a revenue of 60.28 million Euro. Shares are traded on the Regulated market of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.^[11]^[12]
