Dr. Surya Raj Acharya is a Nepalese Politician as well as expert on infrastructure policy. ^[1] He was a professor at Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University^[2] before joining Bibeksheel Sajha Party ^[3]. He is the spokesman of Bibeksheel Sajha Party. Acharya lives in Bharatpur Metropolis in Chitwan District, Nepal. ^[4] ^[5]

Education

Dr. Acharya has a Bachelor in civil engineering from the National School of Technology in Jamshedpur, India.^[6] He has a masters degree in resource management from the Asian Institute of Technology. He holds a PhD degree in infrastructure and regional development from the University of Tokyo, Japan. He has worked a long time with the Institute of Transport Policies Studies, Japan as Senior Fellow.^[7] He has also worked as a Visiting Professor for Tokyo University, Japan. He was incumbent Visiting Professor at the Institute of Engineering before being affiliated in Politics. Beside Civil Engineering, he also keeps interest in Economics, Social Sciences and Public Administration.

Political career

Dr. Acharya soon joined as the central committee member of Bibeksheel Sajha Party where he was later promoted as the Spokesperson of the party. He contested the Nepalese legislative election, 2017 from Kathmandu Area no -2, where he was defeated with Madhav Kumar Nepal. Although defeated, he rose to become one of the most popular politician with his intellectual abilities and deep understanding in the infrastructure development science.

Popularity

Dr. Acharya due to his academic expertise soon became quite popular after the election. His vision are well appreciated by the Nepalese people due to which he appears in many Talk shows on Television.^[8] Due to his academic excellence he is more often invited in such talk shows as intellectual expertise and rarely as politician.
