}}Ustad Bukhari (original name Syed Ahmed Shah Bukhari) ({{lang-sd|استاد بخاري}}) was a Sindhi-language poet.[1][2] He died on 9 October 1992 in Karachi.[3]

Education and services

After passing Sindhi Final in 1944, Ustad was appointed as a teacher in the education department. He passed his master's degree in Sindhi Literature in 1964, and in 1967 he joined the Government Law College as Lecturer and he retired as Professor. Paying tribute to his services as teacher and poet, after his death, the Government of Sindh named the Government Boys Degree college Dadu as Ustad Bukhari Degree College Dadu.[4]

His poetry is famous in Sindh. Ustad used very simple dialect which promoted his poetry among the common people who are not educated. His poetry is used for the opening of many programmes. Some famous extracts of his poetry are as follows:

ﭘﺮﺍﺋﻲ ﺳﻮﻧﻬﻦ ﮐﻲ ﭘﻴﺎﺭﺍ، ﭼﻤﮡ ﻻ۽ ﺣﻮﺻﻼ ﮔﻬﺮﺟﻦ .

In the following quote, Ghazal Ustad reminds his beloved:

ﻳﺎﺩ ﭤﺌﻲ ﺭﺍﺕ ڪﺎﺭﻱ ۽ ﺍﻧﮅﺍﺭﻱ ﺗﻮﻥ ۽ ﻣﺎﻥ

ﻧﻴﻢ ﺷﺐ ﺟﻲ ﺍﺷڪﺒﺎﺭﻱ ﺁﻩ ﺯﺍﺭﻱ ﺗﻮﻥ ۽ ﻣﺎﻥ

Death

Ustad Bukhari died on 9 October 1992[5] due to blood cancer in Jinnah Hospital, Karachi, and was buried on 10 October 1992 at Dadu.[6]
